Duxbury, MA : Two Duxbury teens were injured in single-car crash at South Station Street Saturday, May 7th, 2016
Two Duxbury teens were injured Saturday night when the car they were riding in went off the road and struck a tree on South Station Street.
Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
According to Duxbury Fire Captain Rob Reardon, the emergency dispatch at the fire station received multiple 911 calls at 8:57 p.m. on May 7 about the crash in front of 52 South Station Street. A 17-year-old boy was driving and a 15-year old girl
was the passenger.
“Captain Rob Tripp arrived to find a single motor vehicle had crashed into a tree,” said Reardon. “They were quickly able to remove the passenger but firefighters continued to work with the Jaws of Life and other extraction tools to free the driver.”
It took Duxbury rescue crews half an hour to get the driver out of the wreck using the hydraulic equipment. Fourteen fire fighters, seven of whom are paramedics, worked to help the teen.
Reardon said the young man had multiple system trauma, which translates to serious injuries. Both crash victims were taken to the trauma center at South Shore Hospital in separate ambulances.
Duxbury Police Lieutenant Lewish Chubb said Tuesday that the driver’s injuries were non-life threatening.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
