A 45-year-old woman is dead and her two children are among the injured following a Wednesday morning crash, officials with the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.
The crash happened around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Richwood Road in Walton.According to crash investigators, a 42-year-old Union man was driving a flatbed truck eastbound on Richwood Road when its right axles went off the side of the road.
As the driver corrected, the flatbed truck crossed the center line and collided with a westbound vehicle, officials said.
The 45-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle, Amy Skiba, of Union, was killed in the crash. Two children of hers were in the vehicle, officials said. Both are 12 years old.
After the initial crash, investigators said the bed of the truck totally disengaged from its frame, colliding with a third westbound vehicle.
Thomas Haddock, a close personal friend of Skiba, told WLWT she was driving the twins to school when she was hit.
Skiba and Haddock met more than 10 years ago while working at Conner Middle School. He was a teacher, and she was the guidance counselor.
"She was always the person that would go that extra mile. She was the person that would organize the giving tree gifts at Christmas for the needy. She was always putting other people before herself. The smile that she had was contagious," Haddock said.
