A 34-year-old Bronson man was killed when the pickup truck he was driving went off the road and hit a tree in Levy County on Sunday.
Gerald Charles Dukes Jr. was killed, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.
A passenger, Victoria Faren, 22, of St. Petersburg, was taken to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries. Troopers said there may have been a third passenger who has not been identified.
The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday on Northeast 82nd Place near Northeast 97th Court, which at that point is a one-lane dirt road, according to the FHP.
The truck, a 1995 GMC pickup, went onto the east shoulder, and Dukes overcorrected, taking the truck onto the west shoulder, according to the FHP. It went off the road and struck a tree.
Dukes was pronounced dead at the scene by a Levy County paramedic at 1:04 p.m.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
