Rolla, MO: Man, 75, killed in crash north of Rolla on Thursday, July 23rd 2015

A 75-year-old man was killed in a one-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in northern Phelps County.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Charles L. Spencer, of Rolla, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on County Road 2030, 4.5 miles north of Rolla.According to the patrol, Spencer was driving a 2007 Isuzu I290 northbound on the county road when the truck traveled off the right side of the road, striking a fence and numerous trees. The vehicle overturned before coming to a rest in a field.The patrol report states Spencer was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled.The Phelps County Sheriff's Department, Rolla Rural Fire.Protection District and St. James Ambulance District assisted the patrol.This is the first traffic fatality reported in July by the patrol in the Troop I region, which covers Phelps and five other south central Missouri counties. This is the 12th traffic death so far this year in the Troop I area.
