DUNCAN, SC : 2 juveniles, adult injured in chase that ended in crash on Sunday, 18th September 2016

Spartanburg County deputies said a 16-year-old is facing charged after taking his mother's car without permission and then getting into a hit-and-run crash, leading deputies on a brief chase, and then crashing into a tree.

The crash happened on Berry Shoals Road near Tucapau Road around 4:30 a.m. according to the SC Highway Patrol.

Spartanburg County deputies said the incident started when the 16-year-old took his mother's Chevy HHR and drove to an address on South Pine Street, where a man spotted the vehicle in the driveway of the neighbor's home and the neighbor's children around the vehicle.

When the neighbor questioned the children, he told deputies the Chevy rammed his 2004 Dodge ram and then fled the scene.

Deputies tracked the Chevy to the 16-year-old's mother, who said she wanted to press charges.

Deputies then sent out a radio alert to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

A deputy on patrol then spotted the car in the Duncan area and conducted a traffic stop.

As the deputy walked toward the vehicle, deputies said the teen driver sped off.

A short chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

The chase ended roughly 30 seconds after it began when deputies said the Chevy ran off the road and hit a tree.

The pursuing deputy was able to free the driver, who was trapped behind the steering wheel, and two passengers from the smoking vehicle.

Deputies said a 14-year-old and a 22-year-old were passengers in the car.

All three people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Deputies said the 16-year-old was charged with use without owner's consent, malicious injury to personal property, failure to stop for blue light, and no SC driver's license.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and may file additional charges from that incident, deputies said.
