Darlington, MD : Two people injured after crash on Route 1 in Darlington on Thursday, May 7, 2015
Two people were seriously injured in a crash at Route 1 and Smith Road in Darlington late Thursday afternoon, according to Harford County emergency officials.
An adult and one "pediatric" victim were trapped in their vehicle after the crash, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., according to county emergency radio dispatches.
Rich Gardiner, spokesperson for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association, said it took 20 minutes for rescue workers to free the victims from the wreckage, he said.
Both victims were airlifted to an unidentified trauma center by a Maryland State Police Medevac, he said.
Route 1 was closed after the crash, and Gardiner said around 5:15 p.m. that state troopers and firefighters were trying to get one lane open.
The Darlington Volunteer Fire Company and Maryland State Police responded.
