Atwood, IN : One dead after Kosciusko County crash on Friday evening, June 17, 2016

One person is dead after a crash in Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County officials are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening near Atwood, according to a release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

Around 7:30 p.m., Koscuisko County Sheriff's deputies and emergency responders were called to the intersection of US 30 and County Road 800 West in regard to a property damage accident.

Shortly after that call came in, dispatch received another call about a personal injury accident in the same area. Responders arrived on the scene and found a 2001 Ford Mustang had been hit from behind by a 2003 Buick LeSabre.

Initial reports indicate that the Mustang, driven by Bert Hyde, 25, of Etna Green, had stopped near the edge of the westbound passing lane of US 30. Hyde had exited his vehicle to assist in the original property damage vehicular accident. While stopped, Hyde's vehicle was struck from by the westbound LeSabre driven by Danielle Underwood, 29, of Fort Wayne. The passenger in Hyde's vehicle, Donald Steward, 51, of Etna Green was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Underwood was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition.

It was unclear from the release whether Hyde was injured.

The crash is under investigation.

This was the second fatal crash in Kosciusko County in two days.
