A Kentucky man has died in an accident while working in northern Illinois on the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
Officials in Ogle County say 20-year-old James C. Campbell of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, died Thursday morning just north of the village of Forreston. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ogle County Sheriff's Department says Campbell was the only occupant of an ATV when a large magnetic boom struck the top of the vehicle and pushed it onto its side. Officials say the boom spun out of control as it was being used to lift metal railroad spikes.
Officials say Campbell was ejected from the vehicle and injured his head. He was doing private contracting work. His death remains under investigation.
Forreston is about 30 miles southwest of Rockford.
