Stroudsburg, PA : Effort man, Pittston woman die in motorcycle crash in Chestnuthill Twp. on Wednesday, 19th October 2016

A Monroe County man and a Luzerne County woman died in a two-vehicle crash shortly after noon Wednesday in Chestnuthill Township, according to state police at Fern Ridge.

The two victims were riding a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Toll Road, Effort, when they crested a hill and crashed into a vehicle, also in the northbound lane, that was stopped for a school bus at 12:16 p.m., state police said.

Daniel Gregory Weir, 22, of Effort died at the scene. He was driving the motorcycle. His passenger, Faith Villiano, 20, of Pittston, was taken to Pocono Medical Center where she died of her injuries, state police said.

Weir's motorcycle crested a hill on Toll Road and crashed into the rear of a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Michael Buccieri, 17, of Effort, state police said. Police said Buccieri was obeying the law by stopping for a southbound school bus which had its signal lights on and had stopped to load students, police said.

Buccieri was not injured, police said.

Police said that neither Weir nor his female passenger were wearing helmets.

The bus at the crash scene was Pleasant Valley School District’s afternoon kindergarten run, Superintendent Carole Geary said. One student being dropped off and a senior in the vehicle behind the bus witnessed the crash. None of the other students on the bus saw anything.

“Counseling for the students has been provided for those involved,” she said.

A forensic autopsy will be performed today and the results will be available later in the day, according to Monroe County Corner Bob Allen.

West End Ambulance and West End Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
