Harbeson, DE : One person dead after crash near Harbeson after car drifts into oncoming traffic on Sunday, Oct 18, 2015

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that killed one driver near Harbeson.

The crash occurred on Harbeson Road around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Police say 34-year-old Gianfranco Carta was traveling northbound in a Mercury Marquis, when the car drifted into southbound lanes and hit a Mazda MX3 nearly head-on. Both cars went off the road and the drivers were trapped for a time.

Police say Carta, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at Beebe Healthcare. A dog in Carta's car also died.

The driver of the other car was taken to Beebe Healthcare with injuries that police say were not thought to be life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation and police say witnesses reported that the Marquis may not have had headlights on before the crash.
