PLAIN TWP, OH : Plain Township crash leaves North Canton man dead on Tuesday, July 4, 2017
Drugs and alcohol are suspected in the two-car crash that left a North Canton man dead, according to a news release from Lt. Leo Shirkey of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Canton post.
Michael D. Elsass, 26, of North Canton, was driving a maroon 2005 Chevrolet Malibu south on Cleveland Avenue NW about 1:15 a.m. today when he failed to stop for a red light at Mount Pleasant Street, striking the front of a silver 2010 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was heading east on Mount Pleasant. Elsass lost control of the Malibu, ran off the right side of the road and struck a group of trees.
Lawrence E. Dobbins, 71, of Hartville, who was driving the minivan, and his passenger, Lynda Dobbins, 70, were not injured, according to the Patrol.
Investigators found illegal drugs in Elsass’ car and, the release said, “alcohol and illegal narcotics are believed to be a factor in the traffic crash.”
The wreck remains under investigation.
