A Lansing man was killed Sunday when the motorcycle he was riding left an exit ramp on southbound U.S. 127 and Interstate 96, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office said in a statement

The crash victim was identified as Mandeep Singh, 28.

Singh was attempting to enter westbound I-96 at about 2:20 p.m. when he failed to negotiate the ramp, according to the statement.

Although officials initially reported Singh was not wearing a helmet, department spokesman Detective Sgt. Greg Harris said Monday that a helmet was recovered at the scene; it remains unclear whether Singh was wearing the helmet when he crashed, Harris said.

Witnesses told police he was traveling at a high rate of speed, the Sheriff's Office said in its statement.
