VICTORVILLE, CA : Major traffic collision shuts down Hesperia Road on Saturday, 5th November 2016
A single vehicle traffic collision resulted in multiple injuries and the arrest of an 18-year-old Victorville male resident on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday morning.
At 12:42 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victorville Station deputies were dispatched to a report of an unknown-injury traffic collision involving a purple Dodge Durango SUV on Hesperia and Seneca Road in Victorville.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the driver of the SUV, Andrew Gregorio Villegas, 18, of Victorville, was traveling southbound on Hesperia Road with five other passengers in the car. As Villegas was approaching Seneca Road, he lost control of the of the vehicle at the curve of the roadway and it rolled over several times, officials said.
The SUV then struck a light pole on the west shoulder of Hesperia Road and finally came to a rest on its roof.
According to the officials, four of the five passengers traveling with Villegas were juveniles and it was believed that four of the occupants were ejected from the SUV during the collision.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene as two people were airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center with major injuries while two other passengers were transported by ground to the same location for moderate injuries. Another person was transported by ground to Desert Valley Hospital for minor injuries.
During the investigation, Villegas was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for DUI and causing injury.
Villegas was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto as deputies are still investigating whether speed was a factor in this collision, officials said.
Hesperia Road was closed in both directions until approximately 10:15 a.m.
