THOMSON, IL : Iowa man killed in Carroll County crash on Wednesday, 9th November 2016

The driver of a car that struck the back of grain-hauling semi tractor-trailer about 5:21 a.m. today in rural Thomson was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Carroll County Sheriff's Office news release.

Jacob Goebel, 31, of Clinton, Iowa, was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The truck driver, a 35-year-old Fulton man, was not injured, the release states.

The car was traveling east on Argo Ray Route about a half-mile east of Illinois Highway 84 east of Thomson. The truck driver was waiting for oncoming traffic before turning left into a farm driveway, according to the news release.

The sheriff's office's accident reconstruction officer and the Carroll County Coroner's Office continue to investigate that crash.
