Vandalia, OH : Vandalia-Butler community remembers teen killed in car crash on Monday October 3 2016

Butler High School is grieving the loss of a senior who died in a car accident.

Alexandria “Allie” Fowler, 17, was killed in a single vehicle crash on state route 4 near Stanley Avenue on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. as the 17-year-old headed north bound on route 4 to Wright State University, where she took classes as part of the college credit plus program.

Dayton police said she over-corrected, sending her car across two lanes of traffic, hitting the guard-rail and pinning her in the wreckage. Fowler was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital a short time later.

School officials met with teachers and staff members Monday morning to prepare for the day. Roughly 20 grief counselors on hand at Butler High School.

“While details are limited at this point in time, we do know that this family, our VBCSD Family, and the entire Vandalia-Butler community will be impacted greatly by this loss and our thoughts and prayers will be focused on getting through this difficult time,” Vandalia-Butler City School Superintendent Bradley Neavin said.

According to high school Principal Thomas Luebbe, the senior class is taking it the hardest. “You know it’s obviously a shock to all of us in our community. Allie was a special young lady and we are deeply grieving with the family also,” Luebbe said. “We’re working with our students showing them the care of love. It’s OK to hug, it’s OK to cry today. And that’s OK to do that tomorrow too.”

Students are planning to wear tie-die clothing to remember Fowler on Friday.
