2 killed, students hurt in Central Missouri crash
A traffic accident killed two people and sent a dozen Crest Ridge School District students to area hospitals on Tuesday.“Both vehicles were driving east on U.S. Highway 50 at Northwest 271 Road. The school bus had slowed to make a right hand turn and the SUV overtook and struck the school bus in the rear,” said Sgt. Collin Stosberg of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, adding that next of kin would be notified before any names could be released. The bus contained about 50 students, ages 8 to 15. None of the 12 students who went to hospitals suffered life-threatening injuries. At the school, Superintendent Julie Dill said parents reunited with injured students at the hospital. The district notified all parents about what happened. She said the wreck shook up veteran bus driver Robyn Scrutchfield. “She’s all right, though. She’s a magnificent woman who has been with us for years,” she said. The bus accident was the second on U.S. Highway 50 for the district in 18 months. The other occurred Feb. 3, 2012, when a bus collided with a car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Northwest 251st Road. Four people suffered injuries in that accident.
