Pierre Part, LA : Two drivers killed in a head-on collision on Louisiana 70 in Pierre Part on Sunday, February 1, 2015
A head-on crash in Pierre Part between two vehicles early Sunday (Feb. 1) claimed the lives of both drivers, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt, according to investigators with the Louisiana State Police.
A 1993 Toyota Tacoma being driven by Lester Albarado, 51, of Pierre Part failed to negotiate a right-hand curve as it was traveling north on Louisiana 70 before 6:30 a.m., investigators said. The Tacoma crossed the road's center line, striking a southbound 1994 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Gabriel Plaisance, 57, of Pierre Part.
"Both drivers, who were not wearing seat belts, were pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner's Office," said a news release issued by officers with the Louisiana State Police's Troop C.
Toxicology tests are pending for both drivers, officials said, and the crash remains under investigation.
Investigators pointed out that state law requires all occupants of vehicles to be properly restrained, including those in the back seats.
