Two drivers died Friday in a head-on collision in Linn County, but a 15-month-old child in the back seat of one of the cars survived and was rushed to the hospital.
Oregon State Police didn't know the extent of the baby's infant's injuries Friday evening.
Police reported that shortly before 3 p.m. a 2007 Scion tC was headed eastbound on the highway when the driver lost control for undetermined reasons. The driver crossed into westbound traffic and collided head-on with a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
Both of the drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Joseph Atterbury, 24, of Roseburg, was driving the Scion. Mary A. Welch, 70, of Lebanon, was driving the Chrysler.
The infant was riding in the back seat of the Scion. The child was brought to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
The crash scene is less than one mile west of Interstate 5 on Oregon 34, near Columbus Street. The highway also is known as Corvallis-Lebanon Highway 210.
Troopers and the Oregon Department of Transportation spent hours diverting traffic around the crash scene while officials investigated.
