Phoenix, AZ : Fatal crash was caused by truck swerving to avoid hitting dog on Thursday, 3rd November 2016
A 20-year-old man driving a pickup truck Thursday swerved to avoid a dog and caused an accident that killed a 41-year-old man, Phoenix Police said.
They identified the man who was killed as Seth Mugerditchian, who was driving his Kia east on Southern Avenue when a man driving a pickup the opposite direction swerved into his lane. The accident was near 46th Street at about 8:15 a.m. Police did not release the name of the pickup driver.
The vehicles then struck a Valley Metro bus as it approached a stop, though none of the 15 passengers was hurt.
Mugerditchian died in the accident, and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators are awaiting lab results on the drivers to determine impairment, and the investigation is ongoing, Sgt. Vince Lewis said Friday.
"The driver of the pickup truck reportedly swerved to avoid a dog crossing the road when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck the Kia being driven by Mugerditchian," he said.
Cynthia Roy, one of the bus passengers, said she heard a "boom" but said the crash didn't have much of an impact on the bus.
