Police say a Long Island man has been arrested for driving drunk after he struck and killed a pedestrian.
The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Smithtown.Suffolk County police say 43-year-old Timothy Burke, of St., James, was driving north on Route 111 when he hit a pedestrian crossing the road.The pedestrian, 51-year-old Kenneth Rich, ofSmithtown, was pronounced dead at the scene.Burke was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was awaiting arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip.No information was available on an attorney for Burke who could comment on the charges.
