DAVENPORT, TX : Texas woman charged after 3-vehicle crash leaves 1 dead in Davenport on Monday, January 30th 2017
A Texas woman was taken to Scott County Jail after a Monday evening crash sent her and another driver to the hospital, while the driver of a third vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene in Davenport.
Laura Kelly, of Alvarado, Texas, is charged with homicide by vehicle (reckless), failure to stop in assured distance, red light and no insurance after Davenport police at about 5:52 p.m. responded to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Brady and 2nd streets, police said in a news release.
Police said Ms. Kelly was driving a 2005 Dodge truck headed east on 2nd Street that struck two cars, a Chevrolet and a Buick, stopped at a red light at the intersection with Brady Street.
Ms. Kelly and the driver of the Buick were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the driver, pending the notification of family members.
After being released by the hospital, Ms. Kelly was taken to the Scott County Jail and charged, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Traffic Safety Unit of the Davenport Police Department.
