Seattle, WA : Three people injured after Tow truck crashes into ramen restaurant on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, April 19, 2016

A crash at about 8 a.m. Tuesday injured three people and tied up traffic on Capitol Hill at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and East Pine Street.

A 74-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were taken to Harborview Medical Center. Lt. Toby Graves, of the Seattle Fire Department said their injuries were serious but not life-threatening. Another man, in his 60s, also was taken to Harborview, said Seattle Fire spokeswoman Corey Orvold. A bicyclist narrowly escaped serious injury in the crash.

As police worked to piece together what exactly had happened, auto parts littered the sidewalks around the intersection, and the window of a ramen-noodle restaurant was bashed in.

Cyclist Thushan Abeysekera said he had been stopped at a red light, heading west on Pine Street. The light switched to green, he said, and he heard a crunch behind him as he crossed the intersection.

He said a vehicle struck him from behind, and he was thrown from his bike. A tow truck struck Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya, the restaurant on the corner, bounced back and ran over Abeysekera’s bike as he scrambled to dodge the vehicle, he said.

Had he not moved, “Wow, I wouldn’t be here,” Abeysekera said.

Police could be seen fishing his bike out from beneath the tow truck.

Abeysekera said he was a regular bike commuter but wasn’t sure if he’d continue.

“I have to get a new bike first,” he said.
