Rockville, MD : Southbridge teen died after car crash in on Wednesday January 13 2016.
A Southbridge teen died after she and three others crashed through a pond of ice at a Connecticut state park Tuesday night, officials have confirmed.
Emily Blouin, 18, was pronounced dead at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rockville Hospital in Vernon, Conn.
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dennis Schain said Blouin and three others were traveling through the Bigelow Hollow State Park in the northeastern town of Union at around 8 p.m. when the car submerged after going out about 50 yards on thin ice.
It’s dark out there and there are twisty roads, and it was snowing,” he said. “Somebody must have seen something, because authorities were alerted pretty quickly. The Tolland County dive team was able to get the four people out of the water, and was able to get the car out of the water.”
Schain said the driver of the car and two other passengers, all in their early 20s from Southbridge, were treated and released from Hartford Hospital. He said it’s illegal for anyone to enter the park after sunset, but no charges have been filed
