Police in Rhode Island say a Florida man has been taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian.
Paul Newman, of Jacksonville, Florida, appeared in court Tuesday after turning himself in on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death resulting. His lawyer tells WLNE-TV the 53-year-old man is posting bail and will be back in court in November.
Police say 46-year-old Maria Raposo was crossing a street when she was hit by an SUV on Monday night in East Providence. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
