Hammond, LA : Woman died after wrong-way crash with a truck on I-55 South early Tuesday morning, Oct 6, 2015

Louisiana State Police said a woman driving the wrong way on the interstate died after her car collided head-on with a truck.

Troopers said the crash happened on I-55 in Hammond shortly before 1 a.m. The victim, now identified as 53-year-old Donna I. James, lived in Macon, Mississippi.

Investigators said the preliminary evidence at the scene showed a Nissan Altima was headed northbound on I-55 South at the same time a Nissan pickup driven by Kaden Ezell, 23, of Bogue Chitto, MS, was also on I-55 South.

They added the two vehicles collided head-on and James, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office.

Troopers said Ezell was buckled up, but still suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to Northoaks Hospital for treatment.

LSP reported impairment is not suspected as a factor, but as with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken from both drivers and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
