One person has died after a motor vehicle accident in Kannapolis.
According to WBTV the single-vehicle wreck happened at the intersection of Lane Street and Evelyn Avenue around 2:30 p.m.
Police told WBTV the vehicle crashed into a power pole and then came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home.
The victim’s name has not been released, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The vehicle was headed west, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole," Annette Keller, director of communications for Kannapolis, said in a statement. "The driver was a 43 year old male who died at the scene. We are unable to identify the driver pending notification of his family."
The crash is still under investigation.
The City of Kannapolis released a statement saying Lane Street is closed between Bostian Avenue and Laura Avenue due to the accident and may be closed for several hours because of downed power lines.
