Naples, FL : 32-year-old man dead, wildlife officer injured in a crash on US-41 in Collier County on Wednesday night, December 2, 2015

A 32-year-old man died, and a wildlife officer was flown to the hospital following a crash along US-41 in Collier County Wednesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Volvo was heading east near Newport Drive when it lost control and struck a Florida Fish and Wildlife Tahoe traveling in the other direction. The car then slammed into a guardrail.

The driver of the Volvo, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer, 45-year-old John Costello Reed, of Naples, was transported to Physicians Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

US-41 was shut down in both directions while troopers investigated, but it has since been re-opened.
