New Creek, W.V : Grant County man injured in U.S. Route 50 crash on Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Alcohol and speed may have factored in a Wednesday crash that seriously injured a Grant County man, according to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office.

Jeremy Kessell of Scherr was flown to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter following the 1 a.m. mishap that occurred on U.S. Route 50 in the area of Tanglewood Loop.

No information was available on Thursday concerning Kessell's condition or injuries.

Police said Kessell was operating a 2003 Jeep Cherokee when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree head-on.

Sheriff Jeremy Taylor said Thursday charges are pending in the ongoing investigation.
