Oxon Hill, MD : Five dead in Prince George's County crash on Friday night, October 10, 2014
Five people, including two children, were killed Friday night in a two-car crash in Oxon Hill, Prince George's County Police said.
Police said that at 9:30 p.m., a Mercedes Benz carrying three people rear-ended an Acura had stopped at a traffic light at Livingston Road and Livingston Terrace. One passenger in the Mercedes and four of the five passengers of the Acura died in the accident.
"In my nearly 40 years of PGFD service, the Oxon Hill crash that claimed 5 lives last night ranks as one of the worst," Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said on Twitter Saturday.
Authorities have not yet identified either driver nor anyone who died in the crash.
Police said it was unclear why the Mercedes Benz did not stop, but authorities suspect speed and rain may have contributed to the accident. The driver of the Mercedes remains in critical condition at a local hospital, police said. A female passenger in the Mercedes died at the scene, and a male passenger is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Three women and two children were in the Acura at the time of the accident. Only the driver survived, and police said she was in "guarded condition" at an area hospital. One woman riding in the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene, another woman and the two children were taken to a hospital, where they later died.
