Lakeland ,FL :One person killed after motorcycle and school bus collided on early Thursday morning ,August 27th 2015

One person is dead after a motorcycle and a school bus collided early this morning in Lakeland.

The crash happened at Sikes Boulevard and Lime Street.

No children were on the bus at the time.

Lakeland Police Department Sgt. Gary Gross said the driver of the motorcycle, Niriel Cordero, 28, of 5047 Cimarron Drive in Lakeland, died at the scene.

An LPD officer said he saw Cordero speeding and crossing double yellow lines while traveling westbound on Parker Street.

The officer caught up with him at a red light at Parker and Massachusetts Avenue, he said, but Cordero fled when the light turned green.

Gross said Cordero's license was suspended, and that may be why he fled.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle and called off the traffic stop at 7:11 a.m.

At 7:13 a.m., the accident was reported.
