A bicyclist was killed when they were struck by a vehicle in Burke County Thursday evening. Troopers said the person who hit the victim left the scene.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Old Highway 18 just south of Interstate 40. Officials said an EMS worker came upon the scene by chance, and tried to give the victim CPR, but it was too late and he was pronounced deceased.
The victim's name has not been released, but troopers told WBTV that he was a 55-year-old male who was riding his bike home from the store.
Troopers said they are searching for an "older-model" white pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet, they believe was involved. They did not give further information.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run should call authorities immediately.
