A person who had stopped at the scene of a car crash was struck by a tractor trailer which then crashed early today on 1-70 near New Market, police said.
An unknown driver crashed a Pontiac Firebird and left it in an eastbound lane of the interstate about 2 a.m., according to a Maryland State Police press release.
A passerby stopped at the crash site and tried to warn other drivers about the abandoned vehicle, police said.
An approaching tractor trailer swerved but the driver was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian, police said.
The driver of the truck then lost control and drove through a guardrail and over an embankment.
The pedestrian was treated for minor injuries at Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.
The driver of the truck was not injured and police are looking for the driver of the Firebird.
I-70 East was closed at the scene while the tractor trailer was removed.
