WEST BROOKFIELD, MA : Driver injured in Rt. 9 crash in West Brookfield after police chase on Wednesday, 5th February, 2020

A driver who crashed on Route 9 in West Brookfield Wednesday night had been pursued earlier in the evening by state police on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

State police spokesman David Procopio said troopers stopped the pursuit on the highway, but around 8:14 p.m. they were notified that local police located the same vehicle and that it crashed on Route 9 at Ridge Street. State police were not “involved or engaged” with the vehicle at the time of the crash, Procopio said. The driver was seriously injured, he said.

At 7:36 p.m. a trooper on patrol on the westbound side of the turnpike saw a vehicle that Auburn police had chased earlier for a traffic violation. Auburn stopped the chase before a trooper saw the vehicle on the turnpike.

The trooper, on patrol out of the Charlton barracks, tried to pull the driver over on the turnpike, but the driver did not stop and sped away, according to Procopio. State police Troop C headquarters ordered the trooper not to chase the vehicle, and the trooper lost sight of it, he said.
