WARWICK, RI : Warwick man gets 6 years in prison for drunken crash that seriously injured girl, 7 on Wednesday, 24th October 2018

A 48-year-old Warwick man on Wednesday admitted to drunken driving, at nearly five times the legal limit, in a crash that seriously injured a 7-year-old girl as she walked with her scooter on the sidewalk.

Second-grader Haylee Molina, now 8 and still in a wheelchair with her right leg elevated, watched as Anthony Sudduth pleaded no contest to driving under the influence and reckless driving, both resulting in serious bodily injury, in the crash in which he struck Haylee as she headed to nearby Pontiac Park with her family.

A blood test taken after the crash revealed that Sudduth had a blood-alcohol level of .380, more than 4.75 times the legal limit.

Superior Court Judge Bennett Gallo sentenced Sudduth to 10 years, with six to serve, for the driving under the influence charge and five years suspended with probation for reckless driving.

In addition, he received a consecutive five years in prison for violating the terms of his probation on a felony domestic assault charge.
