Ocala, FL : One person injured in a car crash on Interstate 75 north of Ocala Saturday, June 18, 2016

A car crash on Interstate 75 north of Ocala sent at least one person to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and closed the right lane of the interstate Saturday afternoon while Florida Highway Patrol investigators worked the scene.

According to preliminary information supplied by FHP Capt. Michael Burroughs, the crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. when a car traveling north near mile marker 355 at a high rate of speed attempted to pass a slower vehicle in the right lane by using the emergency lane.

The passing car lost control, left the highway and hit trees, Burroughs said.

The driver, who was ejected, was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

The driver's name and vehicle description weren't available Saturday.
