Oakland, MD : Virginia motorcyclist injured in Garrett County crash early Sunday evening, April 2, 2017

A Virginia man was flown to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland after he lost control of his motorcycle on Boiling Springs Road early Sunday evening, according to the Garrett County Sheriff's Office.

Alexander Cuppett, 77, of Madison, suffered unspecified injuries in the 6:15 p.m. crash that occurred when his southbound motorcycle left the roadway, struck a tree and traveled down an embankment.

Maryland State Police helicopter flew the victim to the hospital.

Southern Garrett Rescue Squad and Oakland and Deer Park volunteer fire department also responded to the scene upon alert by the Garrett County 911 emergency center.

Police said no charges were pending.
