LA FERIA, TX : A vehicle collision in La Feria on Saturday, July 22, 2017

A vehicle collision in La Feria left two people dead over the weekend.

Two La Feria residents were said to be driving in opposite directions on Saturday afternoon.

Beatrice Yanez, 48, was reported to be traveling north of US 281 on FM 506 in La Feria and Javier Leal, 36, was driving south.

At approximately 1:53 p.m. Leal veered onto the north bound lane causing a head-on collision with Yanez.

The impact from the collision caused Leal to be ejected from his Ford Fiesta.

Both drivers, Yanez and Leal, were pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Investigators believe that alcohol might have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Currently, the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the fatal incident and cannot confirm whether or not alcohol was the reason for the accident.
