Lincoln Park, NJ : 17-year-old critical after car crashes into tree in Lincoln Park on Monday afternoon, April 11, 2016

A 17-year-old driver was flown to the hospital in critical condition Monday afternoon after his car crashed into a tree on Beaverbrook Road, police said.

The teen was the only occupant in the vehicle when it crashed into the tree around 12:47 p.m., Detective John Clements said. He was entrapped in the vehicle after the crash but was extricated by the Lincoln Park Fire Department.

The teen was still in critical condition at St. Joseph's Medical Center Tuesday, Clements said.

It does not appear that the teen, who has a valid driver's license, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but his airbag did deploy, Clements said. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash, but police are still investigating the speed at which he was traveling.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lincoln Park Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor'??s Office, Clements said.
