Parma, NY : Parma crash kills 1, critically injures another at the intersection of Parma Center Road and Clarkson-Parma Townline Road on Monday, 7th January 2019

Deputies are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the town of Parma shortly after noon on Monday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Parma Center Road and Clarkson-Parma Townline Road, approximately 2.5 miles north of West Ridge Road.

A spokesperson for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it appears that one vehicle failed to stop at the intersection and struck another.

A person in that second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with what were described as "critical injuries."

Investigators issued an appeal to the public Monday evening for information about the earlier travels of one of the vehicles, a green 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. The Sheriff's Office provided a photograph of a similar vehicle.

They asked anyone who had seen the SUV Monday morning in the western part of Monday morning to call 911.

The investigators' news release did not say why they wanted such information or what role the Hyundai played in the fatal crash.
