Sandy, UT : Woman dies in four-car collision in Utah on Monday, July 21, 2014
A woman died Monday in Sandy when her car was smashed between an SUV and a pickup truck in a four-car collision that landed three other people in the hospital with minor injuries.
Roudabeh Azmayandeh, 45, was pulling out of a driveway at 9351 S. 700 East at about 4:30 p.m. when the driver’s side door of her green passenger car was struck by an SUV, said Sandy police Sgt. Dean Carriger on Tuesday. Both vehicles then skidded into the oncoming lane, where they clipped a passing passenger car. Then a Dodge pickup truck pulling a full-size trailer rammed into Azmayandeh’s passenger’s side door.
Azmayandeh, her vehicle sandwiched between the SUV and the pickup truck, suffered fatal injuries.
Based on the trajectory of her vehicle after the initial impact with the SUV, police believe Azmayandeh was attempting to cross the street to the McDonald’s on the other side, Carriger said.
A man, woman and four-month-old baby were taken by ambulance to Alta View Hospital with minor injuries.
There was no indication that either drugs or alcohol were involved, Carriger said, adding that an initial review of the crash suggested speed also was not a factor.
