Great Bend, KS : Man killed and Hutchinson man injured in a rollover crash near the Barton/Stafford County line early Sunday morning, May 15, 2016
A Great Bend man was killed in an early Sunday morning crash near the Barton/Stafford County line.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash at about 6:15 a.m. on Southeast 70 Road. Upon arrival, deputies located a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup on its top.
The driver of the truck was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as 20-year-old Jakob Dakota Kinney. A passenger in the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Hutchinson, was injured but refused treatment at the scene.
The sheriff's office says the investigation indicates the truck was traveling north, approaching the Barton/Stafford County line when it failed to negotiate a curve. The truck went into a skid, leaving the road and rolling about three-and-one-half times. Kinney was ejected from the vehicle.
The crash was discovered by a passing motorist at about 6:15 a.m., but the passenger said he believed it happened about 2:30 a.m.
The Stafford County Sheriff's Office and Ellinwood EMS assisted the Barton County Sheriff's Office on the scene.
