SALEM, NH : Man severely injured in Salem tractor-trailer crash on Thursday, October, 26th 2017

A tractor-trailer crash sent one person to the hospital and closed Main Street for two hours Thursday.

Just before noon, a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck crashed on Main Street near Geremonty Drive, according to police.

A man driving the pickup truck was severely injured in the crash, according to Salem Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Brackett. After being extricated from his car, he was transported to Lawrence General Hospital. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

It appears that he may have experienced a medical emergency immediately prior to the crash, according to police.

The crash also caused between 50 and 60 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the road. The regional hazmat team was called in to assist, and the spill was contained by 1:45 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
