Poughkeepsie, NY : A Brooklyn man died in a crash on Sunday, December, 24th 2017
A Brooklyn man died in a crash on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill early Sunday morning after his vehicle was “possibly struck by a falling tree,” according to a state police news release.
Zafar Rustsmor, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was travelling northbound on the Taconic at around 2:25 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway and overturned in the area of Exit 35, Miller Hill Road.
The Parkway around Miller Hill Road was closed for about 3 1/2 hours, according to a state Department of Transportation alert. It reopened before 8 a.m.
State police said a tree had "uprooted" and fallen across the Taconic, noting it was because of natural causes. But there were multiple accidents reported on the Taconic that could have been related to the tree, and a second vehicle "definitely" struck the fallen tree, state police said.
Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call state police Troop K at 845-677-7300.
An investigation is ongoing.
