Bakersfield, CA : Bicyclist injured in traffic accident north of downtown Bakersfield on Friday evening, July 29, 2016
A bicyclist was hospitalized with moderate to major injuries Friday evening after the cyclist was struck by a car in the 4400 block of Chester Avenue, north of downtown Bakersfield.
According to a news release from the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the incident at 8:18 p.m. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the bicyclist pedaling southbound in the No. 2 traffic lane. For unknown reasons, the cyclist veered into the path of a vehicle traveling in the No. 1 traffic lane.
The bicyclist, whose name was not released by authorities, was taken to a local hospital. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident, police said.
