Ossipee, N.H : 1 dead, 1 seriously injured in 3-car crash on Route 16 near Deer Cap Camping Area Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Ossipee police responded to a serious crash near Deer Cap Camping Area on Route 16 around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Ossipee police requested the assistance of New Hampshire State Police upon arrival.

Preliminary investigation by state police indicated that a 2004 Dodge 1500 pickup truck driven by Jason Nason, 28, of Ossipee was traveling northbound on Route 16 when it crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Honda Accord driven by Janet Baumann, 61, of Ossipee, head-on.

As a result, the Dodge to rolled over in the southbound lane, where it was side-swiped by a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Sarah Miller, 26, of Alton.

Police said Miller tried unsuccessfully to avoid hitting the Dodge.

Nason was taken to Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro and was released with only minor injuries.

Police said Janet Baumann was pronounced dead on the scene. Her passenger, Gary Baumann, 67, of Ossipee, was taken to Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro before being flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries.

Miller and her passenger, Shane Perkins, 29, of Barnstead, were not injured, police said.

The crash is still under investigation. Police said all factors, including speed, distraction and impairment are being considered.

Police said any charges will be determined upon the completion of the investigation.
