WAYNE TOWNSHIP, NJ : 80-year-old man killed in crash on U.S. 322 on Tuesday, 4th December 2018

An 80-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 322, just west of Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road.

At about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, a red 2005 Ford F-150 driven by Joshua J. Heilman, 31, of Williamsfield was traveling east on U.S. 322, failed to maintain its lane and crossed the centerline into the westbound traffic, according to the Ashtabula Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The truck struck a blue 2007 Chevrolet C/K1500, driven by Leonard Hoffstetter, 80, of Rome, head-on.

Hoffstetter was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene of the crash. Heilman sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, according to the highway patrol.

Distracted driving appeared to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected appear to be a factor, according to the highway patrol.
