A soldier died in North Carolina after a head-on crash with a deputy’s cruiser in Scotland County on Saturday night, the NC Highway Patrol said.
The incident happened around 9:48 p.m. on NC 144 in Laurel Hill in Scotland County, said Lt. Jeff Gordon of the NC Highway Patrol.
A car containing two soldiers in uniform “ran a stop sign” and hit head-on with a Scotland County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that was occupied by two deputies, Gordon said.
The solider who was driving, who appeared not to be wearing a seat belt, died in the incident, Gordon said.
Gordon did not indicate where the soldiers were based.
The other soldier has life threatening injuries, and was transported by helicopter to a hospital, Gordon said.
The two deputies were talking at the scene, and appeared not to have life threatening injuries, according to Gordon.
Both deputies were transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital, Gordon said.
