Reading, PA : 2 men critically injured in Interstate 78 crash on Wednesday, September 20th 2017
Two men were critically injured Wednesday night when their vehicle slammed into the back of a disabled tractor-trailer along Interstate 78 in northeastern Berks County, state police said Thursday.
The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the interstate just past the Route 737 interchange for Krumsville in Greenwich Township.The occupants of the passenger vehicle, Christopher T. Williams, 25, of Colmar, Montgomery County, and Edmund T. Mann III, 22, of Churchville, Bucks County, were trapped in the wreckage for about a half-hour until freed by rescuers.
Both were taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown. A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon that both men were in critical condition.
Williams was driving when the vehicle crashed into the unoccupied rig, which was being serviced on the right shoulder. The rig is owned by Yasel Gomez of Palm Springs, Fla.
Drugs and drug paraphernalia were in plain view in the vehicle driven by Williams.
An investigation is continuing.
