A West Haven police motorcycle officer was seriously injured during a training exercise Wednesday on the Taconic Parkway in New York, a police department spokesman said.
Officer Michael Doyle, 34, was participating with about 25 other motorcycle cops in the training class hosted by the Yonkers, N.Y. police department, said Sgt. David Tammaro, the West Haven police spokesman. Doyle is an experienced
motorcycle rider, Tammaro said.
The West Haven officer was injured at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday near the Bryant Park Road exit in Putnam County, when his cycle collided with another one as they moved over to let a vehicle enter the parkway. Doyle was thrown from his bike onto the
roadway.
The West Haven officer was taken by Medivac helicopter to the Westchester Medical Center, where he is in critical condition. The parkway was closed in that area for several hours.
|”Officer Doyle, an eight year member of our department, has severe injuries,’’ Tammaro said. “We ask our community to keep this young officer in your thoughts and prayers.’’
