FAYETTEVILLE, AR : University of Arkansas student dies after scooter crash on Tuesday, 6th September 2016
Authorities say a 20-year-old college student has died after crashing his scooter last week on the University of Arkansas campus.
University police Capt. Gary Crain says Cole Pangburn died Tuesday after suffering a head injury in the crash. Crain says Pangburn’s death is the first fatality to result from an on-campus scooter crash.
Pangburn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. As of Wednesday morning, nearly 4,000 people had signed an online petition calling for mandatory helmets for motorcycle, moped and scooter drivers on the university campus.
UA’s Associated Student Government President Connor Flocks tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that he plans to meet this week with the university’s director of police to discuss the helmet proposal.
